Disposition:Jiang Wanyin is best described as temperamental and that's on a good day. He's quick to anger, although when it comes to the people he actually cares about his threats generally lack follow-through. That doesn't mean he's someone to take lightly, given the person this mostly applies to is his nephew Jin Ling. He has a lot of anger inside him and it's no secret he's feared by the lesser cultivators and regular people in their society, with the rumors of his torture and methods of dealing with demonic cultivators. He's had a very difficult life and he carries the scars from it, both physically and mentally.

As the heir to the Jiang sect, he was proud and well-educated, close with his sect brother although even then, he was quick tempered and irritable, usually at Wei Wuxian's antics. His inferiority complex first comes into play here as well, always being outshone by Wei Wuxian with even his own father apparently valuing Wuxian more than his own son. This is most clear right after Wei Wuxian wakes from his ordeal at the Xuanwu cave and the ensuing conversation has Jiang Fengmian and Yu Ziyuan fighting over how the teenagers are treated and Wanyin stating he knows his father hates him because of his mother. Another incident relating to this happened after the war when he was more or less shamed into siding with the other sects against Wei Wuxian, even though he had his own views. Being a new sect leader, he was somewhat unprepared for the manipulative tactics of more experienced sect leaders in his father's generation.

His temper is well-known,although it's not uncontrolled. He does display some restraint although his fuse is pretty short. While he was a bit short-tempered and sharp tongued as a teenager, mostly in response to his brother's actions, the destruction of everything he loved took that and turned it into a cold rage that simmers below the surface. He's no nonsense, low patience and itching for a fight any chance he gets, or at least that's the impression that we get when he first appears at the beginning of the story. And that continues, he's shown to be easily frustrated although we don't see the brutality he's rumored to display toward demonic cultivators.

To some degree, it's shown to a thinly veiled veneer and something of a means of self protection given his nephew Jin Ling gives his threats almost no credence. However, Jin Ling is his own family and has a rather hefty shield. He's not socially adept by any means, though and has even been blacklisted in his search for a wife, given said ill temper and weakness in social niceties and interactions. I do see this as a coping mechanism for the trauma he suffered as a teenager and a defense mechanism to protect himself, even if it's more reactive than intentional.

His overall reputation is far from stellar, but most of the black marks relate to rumors of the way he tortures demonic cultivators. Personally, he comes off as a strict but pragmatic sect leader. He's no paragon of virtue but he's also willing to put in the hard work to keep his sect going and very focused on the traditional values and views of his society. He's a skilled leader, forged in war and i believe that's also influenced a lot of how he runs his sect.

He doesn't trust easily, with good reason, but given the way things worked out after the war, the Jiang sect was something of an outlier among the other four and he didn't necessarily seek to deepen those bonds after the change in leadership in both the Jin and Nie sects. He's definitely aware of the social expectations of their society and does hold to the rules when he has to, but he's also something of a loner. While we don't actually see him at a sect conference, the things we do see suggest at his point, he's more than willing to stand his ground rather than bow to pressure from the other sects. He's definitely abrasive but again, I see this as a defense mechanism to some degree.

Suitability: Jiang Wanyin lost his family at the age of 17 and spent the next three years fighting a war to take down the sect that destroyed his home and family. He's also rebuilt his own sect from the ground up and maintained leadership for over fifteen years. He's a skilled leader, if temperamental, but he does have the loyalty of his disciples and he's well trained in both combat and some level of diplomacy as well as management.

Given the situation he's going to find himself in, he's going to be more likely to trust familiar faces to help him with the synchro and generation of manna, although as he develops more relationships, his options will expand as well. That said, any deeper relationships will take time for him to build, given his own trust issues.

The transformations are going to take some adjusting, especially considering the social views of his own society about body modification, but he'll adjust to it, and while fire hasn't been part of his power base before, cultivators do turn qi into attacks and his ring becomes a lightning whip so he's not unfamiliar with wielding power.

Condition upon arrival: uninjured and pissed off, probably.

Abilities: Golden core cultivation : This entails developing a golden core at a young age (usually). Said core allows for enhanced combat skills, health, and the ability to control your own physical appearance as well as granting power to the tools given to the specific cultivators.

Swordsmanship: Swords are the preferred weapon for cultivators in this canon although several have their own separate weapons so while they can use their swords, they may also generally use them for transportation and flight while using said weapon. In Jiang Wanyin's case, his weapon is Zidian, a chi powered lightning whip that has the ability to exorcise possessed people but can also kill easily if wielded with enough power.

The six arts: These include art, poetry, music, math, horsemanship and archery. While we don't see actual confirmation of the non combat skills involved, given these arts are a required part of any gentry cultivator's education, and Wanyin ranks highly among his peers, it's safe to say he holds some level of skill in the artistic fields as well. And in regards to archery, he's skilled in both shooting from the ground and horseback.

Inventory: his sword Sandu, his clothing, Zidian (family ring that turns into an energy whip and a qiankum pouch containing the memorial tablets for his parents and sister

        Gembond: Ruby
Gem Location: The back of his neck

Notes: While his name is Jiang Wanyin, canonmates will also call him Jiang Cheng or A-Cheng since that's a sign of a closer relationship. In their society, they change their given names upon reaching a certain age and his childhood name of Cheng became Wanyin.
